Attributional Tendencies
The word
attribution is the interpretation or explanation that is made about the causes
and reasons for something that happened, this can be beliefs, attitudes and
behaviors, whether in other people or oneself.
Most people have
the opportunity to draw our own conclusions about the causes of an event and
the behavior of people. People make attributions to understand and find a cause
or reason for their experiences.
I think that when
people make an attribution to something that happened, people are guessing
about the reasons why that happens, they try to find an explanation for
behavior and events. Often these attributions end up being wrong, it seems that
we always need to look for a side to things and see that or to whom we point
our finger or look for reasons to justify or look for guilty.
Many people have
the tendency to justify or judge based on other people's behavior, personality
traits, abilities and feelings.
People tend to
believe that the world is fair and that people get what they deserve. This
belief I would like to associate with something that I always like to remember
for me and also tell my children: "good decisions, good consequences, bad
decisions, bad consequences." With this thought you could believe like
many in the world, "people get what they deserve," or in other words,
"you collect what you reap."
I could also say
that our attitude is because we try to find security by finding meaning in
difficult circumstances.
Too often this
leads to a tendency to blame the victim. When something terrible or tragic
happens, we try to find tranquility when deciding that the person must have
done something and many times we are wrong.
My mother often
says: "some are born with stars and others are born starry"
The meaning of
this is to attribute to think that some have better luck than others.
We all have this
tendency to attribute attributions but as we gain experience in our journey
through life we learn to correct these mistakes.
Hello Claudia:
ReplyDeleteI like Reading your comic and your mother's quote. I agree with that. We used to think that others are luckier than us, and also the everybody is wrong except "me". We need a great task teaching our students to think critically and understand both sides of every situation.
I love the Gospel message.
